Notre Dame Football Fans Outraged by Blown Call

Refs' Mistake Negates 72-Yard Touchdown

Irish Fans React with Fury

Notre Dame football fans are livid after a blown call by the referees negated a 72-yard touchdown run by running back Chris Tyree in the first half of Saturday's game against Marshall.

With the Irish trailing 14-7 late in the second quarter, Tyree broke through the Marshall defense and raced down the sideline for what appeared to be a sure touchdown.

However, the referees ruled that Tyree stepped out of bounds at the Marshall 3-yard line, negating the touchdown and forcing Notre Dame to settle for a field goal.

  • The call was met with immediate outrage from Notre Dame fans, who booed the referees and chanted "Refs suck!"
  • Replays showed that Tyree's foot may have brushed the sideline, but the call was ultimately upheld.
  • The blown call cost Notre Dame a potential 10 points and may have swung the momentum of the game.

The Irish went on to lose the game 26-21, their first loss of the season.

The blown call is just the latest in a series of controversial officiating decisions that have plagued Notre Dame in recent years.

In 2018, the Irish were denied a touchdown in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Clemson when the referees ruled that quarterback Ian Book fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line.

And in 2019, the Irish lost to Georgia in the Gator Bowl after a late pass interference call against Notre Dame gave Georgia the ball at the Irish 1-yard line, setting up the game-winning touchdown.

Notre Dame fans are tired of the blown calls and are calling for the ACC to take action.

The ACC has not yet commented on the call, but it is likely that the conference will review the play and make a statement in the coming days.
